Excuses

Group: 4th year of Primary school
Skills of English: Reading 

Objectives: 

To know what a poem looks like in English.
To learn new vocabulary.
To recognize the rhythm in the English words.
Materials: All my great excuses by Kenn Nesbitt 

Activity:

1. The teacher will give to every child a poem cut out in different parts:

2. The students must restore the poem as they consider.

3. At the end of the activity the teacher will read the original poem and the students can ask everything they want about it. The teacher has to make sure they have understood it!


4. Can you think about any other excuse?

All my great excuses

I started on my homework
but my pen ran out of ink.
My hamster ate my homework.
My computer's on the blink.

I accidentally dropped it
in the soup my mom was cooking.
My brother flushed it down the toilet
when I wasn't looking.

My mother ran my homework
through the washer and the dryer.
An airplane crashed into our house.
My homework caught on fire.

Tornadoes blew my notes away.
Volcanoes struck our town.
My notes were taken hostage
by an evil killer clown.

Some aliens abducted me.
I had a shark attack.
A pirate swiped my homework
and refused to give it back.

I worked on these excuses
so darned long my teacher said,
"I think you'll find it's easier
to do the work instead."

Lights! Camera! Action!

Group: 5th year of Primary school

Skills of English: Reading and speaking
Objectives:

To interact and communicate in English.
To create a cohesive group in which the students feel confident.
To develop the creativity and imagination.
To pronounce the English words as good as possible.

Materials: Story: Room on the broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. (You can see this story in the post called "Broomstick").

Activity:

1. Read the Room on the broom story

2. Prepare a drama in five groups of six persons. This activity will take two sessions at least:

     - In the first one they can prepare their performances.
     - In the second one they can act out in turns.

3. When everyone has finished teacher and students will share feedback and discuss the activity. What mistakes they have made, what they would improve, whether they enjoyed doing this activity or not. To sum up, they will get some conclusions.

3. At the end of the activity the teacher will play the Room on the broom Oscar nominated film version: 

Broomstick

Group: 5th year of Primary school

Skills of English: Reading and writing.

Objectives:
To understand and comprehend an English story.
To develop the creativity.
To be able to write a little part of a story.
To use a correct grammar and spelling in the own writing.
To know one of the most popular stories in the UK.

Materials: Story: Room on the broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

 * Take into account they will read the story, they will not listen to it. This is just a guide for teachers to know the story.

Activities:

1. Read the story carefully and answer the following questions:

1) What does the word room mean in this context?

2) Do you see any rhyming words in the book? Give examples.

3) Why the exclamation mark is used after some words?

4) Why do the animals help the witch?
5) Who would you say are the main characters and why?

2. Create a new ending from the page number 20 (from the minute 4:35 in the video). 
                                                

Seasons

Group: 2nd year of Primary school

Skills of English: Vocabulary, writing.

Objectives:
To learn new vocabulary related to the seasons.
To write about a specific topic using a correct grammar.
To be able to tell about one’s taste.
 Respect other tastes.

Materials: scissors, glue, colour pens.

Activities:

Some days before this activity tell the students to bring some photos found either on magazines or on internet about the seasons of the year. This day, they will have brought those pictures and do the next activities on the worksheets:

1 – Cut out at least three pictures you have found and paste them on the corresponding sheet.

2 – Draw something you would wear in that season.

3 – From the list below, write down the words that belong to that season.

4 - Write what you like and you do not like of every season.

The Ocean

Group: 2nd year of Primary school

Skills of English: Listening and comprehension. Vocabulary

Objectives:
To listen and comprehend an English speaker person telling a story.
To learn new vocabulary related to animals that live under the sea.
To observe how the words are written in English.

Materials: Colour pens, Story video: Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae.
